Advanced Diploma in Homelessness and Refugee Management

About this Course

Homelessness and refugee problems are at crisis point, not only in the UK but also in the rest of the world. This situation has been increasing steadily over recent years and is not about to go away. UN statistics published in 1996 by its centre for human settlements show that, depending on how homelessness is defined, between 100 million and 1 billion people are homeless in the world. Furthermore, the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) estimated that world-wide there were 12 million refugees and 22.4 million people that were of concern to the UNHCR in 1997. Thus, there is an increasing need for properly trained and skilled people to take on the range of roles which help to overcome the problems faced by the homeless and by refugees.

This course has been especially designed to cover a wide range of subjects and at the same time make sure that the study texts are presented in a simple and easy to follow way. This means that whatever your level of experience or knowledge, you will be able to get the maximum out of this course.

This diploma course is suitable both for people already working in or intending to work in housing or refugee organisations like the UN, humanitarian organisations, local authorities, housing associations, homeless charities, government departments, non-profit-making organisations, churches and other religious personnel. It is also for those people who intend to work as any of the following: charity workers, homelessness officers, welfare officers, humanitarian personnel, nurses and midwives, social workers, health professionals, mental health workers
